Access Earth: Crowd-Sourced Maps for People with Disabilities

access earthAccess Earth is a new, Ireland-based company dedicated to helping all people find accessible locations around the world.

The idea behind the company is simple: create an online map forum for people with disabilities.  The maps will exist on a cloud-based platform, so anyone can edit and update them.

Users can search through the maps by exploring different categories: ‘places to sleep’, ‘places to eat/drink’, ‘somewhere to shop’, or ‘things to do’.  For every restaurant or hotel there will be an up-to-date assessment of the accessibility of the building.

“Our mission is to empower people to embark on adventures to new venues and places without having to worry about their destination not being easily accessible,” explains Access Earth on their website, “…our aim is to make the world an accessible place for everyone.”
