France
Presidential Election to Runoff
The first round of France’s presidential election resulted in no outright majority for any candidate, meaning the election will move to a runoff in two weeks. The runoff vote scheduled for April 24 will pit centrist incumbent Emmanuel Macron, who picked up 28.6% of the votes yesterday, against long-term right-wing challenger Marine Le Pen, who drew 24.4%. Yesterday’s third-place finisher, leftist Jean-Luc Melenchon, who received 22% of the vote, has stopped short of directly endorsing Macron, but encouraged his supporters to oppose Le Pen.

Two men fired more than a dozen shots just before 1:30am inside the Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. Police officers were already outside the club due to an earlier incident and rushed inside while 100-150 people ran out. The gunmen are believed to have escaped with the crowd, and no arrests have been made. Q: What is the emerging scientific discipline combining innovations in spatial science and artificial intelligence?
A: GeoAI
GeoAI is geospatial artificial intelligence, running in tandem with, and drawing on the data organized by, Geographic Information Systems (GIS). GeoAI can be used in any variety of fields from market planning and site or product selection, to forecasting economic conditions, human mobility, CO2 emissions, etc. Location is essential to GeoAI, as analyzing data with a geographic dimension allows the data to be understood through its geographic variabilities. While GeoAI can be used for simulating the flow of customers in a new clothing store, it could also be used to optimize locations for health care centers or preparing for climate and weather threats. The combination of spatial sciences and AI have already been shown to help organizations and companies better predict future outcomes and make better decisions.
