Saudi Arabia
Women on The Rise
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s king issued a decree that said women will be able to obtain a driver’s license and drive in accordance with the Islamic laws. Saudi state TV said that the rollout of changes would take until June 2018 to allow for a committee to be formed to plan implementation. Two women activists are credited with successfully campaigning against the driving ban. One activist, Ms. Manal Al-Sharif tweeted “Saudi Arabia will never be the same again. The rain begins with a single drop #Women2Drive”.

Palestine
Interpol Recognizes Palestine
The International police agency, Interpol, has decided to include Palestine as a member state after a vote at their general assembly in Beijing. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki applauds the decision as a “victory for law enforcement” and a “voice of confidence in the capacity of law enforcement in Palestine.” Experts see this as a big step for Palestine amidst their long-standing negotiations with Israel for full statehood.
