Record Breaking Heat
Australia recorded its hottest month ever this past January. Average daily temperatures reached 40C (104F) throughout the month. The heatwave caused wildfires, brush fires, an increase in hospital admissions and wildlife deaths. Australia has been getting warmer, records confirm that 2017 and 2018 were Australia’s hottest years to date. A significant decline in rain patterns over the country contributed to the intense heatwaves.
