Brazil
Miners Massacre Tribes-people
Federal prosecutors have opened an investigation into the massacre of 10 members of an ‘uncontacted’ tribe in the Javari Valley of the Amazon. A Brazilian agency filed an official complaint after the miners were overheard bragging in a bar about killing the tribes-people. According to a witness, they boasted about cutting up the bodies of the tribes-people and throwing them in the river. The gold miners claim that it was a kill or be killed situation and that they acted in self-defense. The first reported killing of uncontacted indigenous people in the region occurred in February of this year.

The combined natural disasters have reportedly taken at least 90 lives in Mexico and the region has suffered damage to infrastructure, roads, and the threat of food shortages.
