World
International Crime Ring Exposed
Today, global law enforcement officials exposed a three year operation that led to the arrest of over 800 hundred people in at least a dozen countries. Officials created and monitored an encrypted network for three years, calling the network Anom. Users became comfortable on the platform, even opting to use plain language rather than code when texting on it. Content of these messages included international drug shipments, weapons trafficking, contract killings, and money laundering, among other crimes. In total, over 9,000 police officers were involved in this sting operation worldwide.

Australia
Largest Dinosaur on Continent
Dinosaur remains first identified in 2007 have been classified as the largest dinosaur found on the continent of Australia. Experts estimate the Australotitan cooperensis or ‘the southern titan’ to have weighed 70 tons, been 21 feet (6.5 m) tall, and nearly 100 feet (30 m) long, about the length of a basketball court. Fossils of the long-necked herbivore were first found on a farm in southwest Queensland by the property owners. Comparison scans of its bones and those of other sauropods were used to make the classification. This discovery is yet another moment in Queensland’s rich paleo history.

Q: Spanning 214,000 square miles (553,000 km2), which volcano was declared the world’s largest in 2013, before being found to be part of a mid-ocean ridge in 2019?
A: Tamu Massif
Located about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) east of Japan in the northwest Pacific Ocean and covering roughly the area of New Mexico, Tamu Massif was first classified as the largest volcano on earth in 2013. The same team of scientists continued to study magnetic anomalies and found the landform first believed to be a singular shield volcano, was actually part of a mid-oceanic ridge. The title of world’s largest volcano was returned to Moana Lao in Hawaii after these findings were published in 2019.
