Canada
New Tariffs
On Sunday, Canada imposed USD $12.6 billion of tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation to the Trump administration’s new trade policies. As the U.S.’s second-biggest business partner, Canada has imposed a 25% tariff on steel and iron and a 10% tariff on other consumer goods. The tariff penalties the U.S. has imposed on other allies at the end of May has aroused similar responses. This map depicts U.S. trade with other countries. Click on the map to learn more.

United States
Nation-wide Protests
On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people marched in over 700 protests across America, spurred by accounts of children separated from their parents at the United States-Mexico border. President Trump’s “zero tolerance policy” has led officials to take more than 2,000 children from their parents as they attempted to enter the country illegally due to violence, prosecution, or economic collapse in their home countries. Marchers demanded the government quickly reunite families that were divided. This interactive map depicts cities where protests were held. Click on the map to explore.

France
Prison Break
On Sunday, Notorious French gangster, Rédoine Faïd, escaped from Sud Francilien Penitentiary Center in Reau. Faïd broke out of the prison visiting room with the help of armed accomplices and then boarded a hijacked helicopter in the courtyard of the prison. The helicopter was found abandoned and burned in a field just northeast of Paris. He was serving 25 years for a botched armed robbery that resulted in the death of a French police officer in 2010. 2,900 police officers are currently searching for him.  In 2013, Faïd escaped from prison by blasting through the gates with explosives, but was apprehended by authorities six weeks later. This map depicts the location and timeline of the escape. Click on the map to learn more.
