India
Missile Test-fire
India successfully test-fired Agni-V, a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The 55 foot-long missile with a payload of 1.5 tons traveled an estimated 3,000 miles (~5,000km) in 19 minutes.  Indian officials stated the developmental test was meant to assess the missile’s capabilities. India is part of a short list of countries with access to ICBMs – including China, Russia, and the US.

South Africa
Cape Town To Slash Water Usage

Cape Town, South Africa is about to become the first major city day to run out of water.  Fearing this outcome, officials will reduce residents’ current daily water allowance from 74 liters to 50 liters a day. The impending “Day Zero” is projected to occur on April 22.  On this day, all local household water supplies will be turned off while only necessary city units such as hospitals will have minimal access to water.  Areas of business and local schools will have to close their doors if they do not have a private water supply.  Major dams in the region are not expected see an increase in water levels until August. Residents should be prepared to live without basic water services from three to six months.
