Search Continues For Missing Climbers
Indian air force pilots found five bodies during their search for eight missing climbers who were hit by an avalanche as they began climbing Nanda Devi, India’s second highest mountain. The climbers were last heard from on May 26th. Among those missing are 2 U.S. citizens, 4 Britons, an Indian, and an Australian. The bodies sighted by the helicopters were found along the same route the missing team followed. It is expected that the 3 remaining crew members’ bodies will be found in the same area, and authorities are still trying to determine how to retrieve the bodies as helicopters cannot safely land amidst the region’s heavy snowfall and winds.

India
Extreme Heat Wave
Sweltering weather continues to grip the northern regions of India and Pakistan for the second week running, as temperatures climbed to over 120 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius) this past weekend and resulted in dozens of deaths. According to weather monitoring site El Dorado, 10 out of the 15 hottest cities in the world in the past 24 hours were in India alone, with 3 in Pakistan. Meteorologists point to the record slow start to the monsoon season, which usually tempers the extreme heat.

This map depicts the ten hottest cities in India since the heat wave began. Click on the map to learn more.
