Indonesia
Preliminary Election Results
On Wednesday, Indonesians voted in the world’s largest single-day election. An estimated 192 million voters cast their ballots at over 800,000 voting stations. Preliminary data collected from vote counts conducted by independent survey groups placed incumbent leader President Joko Widodo in the lead with 55% of the votes, compared to his opponent Prabowo Subianto who had 44%. Prabowo, however, contested the preliminary results, claiming that his own count showed that he was winning. The official results of the election are not expected for another month but the unofficial quick counts, based on samples of votes, have proved to be reliable early indicators in the past.

Wind Farm Officially Opened
German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, officially turned on the Arkona offshore wind farm, which is estimated to provide energy for 400,000 German homes. The Arkona wind farm is the largest in the Baltic Sea with 60 turbines, generating 385 megawatts of power, located off the coast of the German Island, Ruegen. Germany aims to receive 65% of its energy supply from renewables by 2030. A French energy supplier has already signed an agreement to buy energy from Arkona wind farm for four years.

Renewed Activity
Satellite images reveal North Korea is continuing work at the Yongbyon nuclear site. Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies said the images from April 12 show five specialized rail cars near the Uranium Enrichment Facility and Radiochemistry Lab. The report says “In the past these specialized railcars appear to have been associated with the movement of radioactive material or reprocessing campaigns.”
