Iran
Twin Attacks
Simultaneous terrorist attacks have been carried out by ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) in Iran. Militants launched twin attacks, which included gunfire and suicide bombings, on both the Iranian Parliament building and the mausoleum of Islamic Republic founder Imam Ayatollah Khomeini. 12 people are confirmed to be killed with at least 40 more injured at the Ayatollah’s shrine. ISIL immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. A significant development because this is the first major attack by ISIL, a pro-Sunni Muslim group, against a Shiite Muslim target.

Myanmar
Military Plane Goes Missing
A military plane traveling in Myanmar (Burma) has gone missing with over 100 people on board. The plane was scheduled to travel from the southern city of Myeik to the city of Yangon further north. The aircraft was reportedly carrying 90 civilians, most of whom were the families of military personnel while the other 14 were crew members. Sources also say that weather was normal at the time of communication loss and that it is likely that the incident is due to a technical failure. The most recent updates have reported that debris has been found off the coast of Dawei and the local military has been dispatched to search the area.

France
Fear in France
At least 600 people were stuck inside Paris’s world famous Notre Dame cathedral as an assailant pulled a hammer from his backpack and struck a police officer. The attacker yelled “this is for Syria!” as he hit the officer. No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for this attack. This is not the first terror incident in France. France has been in a state of emergency since the Paris attacks in November 2015. More than 230 people have been killed due to three major terror attacks in January 2015, November 2015 and July 2016. In order to prevent further terror in France, French President Emmanuel Macron recently created a counter terrorism task force.
