Iraq
ISIS Takedown
Iraqi forces have moved into the province of Anbar to take down one of the last ISIS-held cities in Iraq, Rawa. This move was prompted by the previous liberation of the city Qaim, a major ISIS stronghold.  Rawa is the last ISIS-held village in Iraq. While there are still pockets of ISIS militants throughout the country, Iraq claims to have defeated the ISIS “caliphate” and has regained control of their territory. This map depicts the village of Rawa in relation to Baghdad and Mosul. Turkey
NATO Pull Out
Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has pulled out 40 Turkish troops from NATO war drills in Norway.  This action comes as other NATO members referred to him and Turkey’s founding leader, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (1881-1938), as “enemies.”  Tensions between Turkey and the rest of the NATO nations have increased due to Erdogan’s alleged support of Islamic State militant groups. NATO has since released an apology to President Erdogan.
