Israel
Embassy Move
The United States Embassy in Israel opened in Jerusalem this Monday. President Trump’s decision in December to transfer the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is seen as controversial by some, as previous American presidents have not recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city. The new embassy is located in a long-disputed area between East and West Jerusalem. Protesters in Gaza have been demonstrating in response to the move. At least 37 Palestinians have been killed at protest sites on Monday. This map depicts the location of the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. Click on the map to learn more.

On Monday, a family of five carried out a suicide bombing on two motorbikes at the police headquarters in Surabaya, Indonesia, injuring six civilians and four police officers. The eight-year-old daughter who was placed between her father and mother during the attack was the only person in the family to survive the bombing. This is the fifth terrorist attack that has taken place in East Java, Indonesia since Sunday. After hearing about the attacks, Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, said he will push an anti-terrorism bill. This map depicts the sites of the five suicide bombings since Sunday in Surabaya Indonesia. Click on the map to expand.

Britain
Gender Pay Gap Revealed
Companies in Britain are working to bridge the wage gap after a recent requirement  obligates all companies and public bodies with over 250 employees to publish salary differences among men and women. There are debates about how to bridge this gap, where higher level roles are held mostly by men, higher paying sectors are dominated by men, and the burden of childcare disproportionately falls on women. Some corporations are increasing the ranks of their female scientists, others are recruiting greater number of women to reflect their client base, while other companies are giving women more flexible work hours. This interactive map depicts the gender pay gap around the world.
