Middle East
Temporary Travel Ban
After a Supreme Court ruling on Monday, President Trump’s travel ban has been partially instated. Anyone coming from the six countries on the list must have “legitimate ties” to someone in the United States, such as family or business. All refugees are banned from entering for 120 days. The Supreme Court will decide in October whether or not the full ban can be implemented. This map shows the Middle Eastern countries that have been included in Mr. Trump’s travel ban. Vatican City
Serious Accusations
The Holy See press office announced on Thursday that Pope Francis had granted a leave of absence to Cardinal Pell of Australia so that he may defend himself in court against his charge of sexual assault. Cardinal Pell issued a statement proclaiming his innocence and declaring that the misinformation was a “relentless character assassination” by the news and media. Cardinal Pell had also stated that the court proceedings offered him a chance to clear his name and return back to Rome. This map shows the location of the Vatican City where Cardinal Pell made his official statement regarding his charges. Malawi
Drones
While delivering food and aid to Malawi is necessary because the country is prone to crop failures and floods, limited road access in many of the country’s rural areas makes delivery difficult. Thus, Malawi in partnership with UNICEF, launched an air corridor today to test the use of drones in humanitarian missions. This is the first project of its kind in Africa. Malawian Minister of Transport Jappie Mhango said “We have already used drones as part of our flood response and we can see the potential for further uses, such as transportation of medical supplies, which could transform lives in remote rural communities.”This map shows the location of landlocked Malawi.
