Mozambique
Cyclone Kenneth Hits
Cyclone Kenneth made landfall in Mozambique approximately one month after Cyclone Idai, which killed over 900 people and caused catastrophic damage. After causing major damage on the island nation of Comoros, Cyclone Kenneth hit Mozambique on Thursday with winds of 140 mph and is set to drop about 30 inches of rain as it moves through the country. Fatalities and damages to structures are currently being reported; the risk of floods and dam breaches is incredibly high. The United Nations Food Programme and other humanitarian agencies are working with the government of Mozambique on an aid plan.

Rescuers were able to save nine people including the captain. The incident occurred on a popular route for refugees and migrants seeking to reach Trinidad. 10,000 Venezuelans in Trinidad have registered as asylum-seekers with the United Nations refugee agency.
