Myanmar
Fleeing Ethnic Violence
Ethnic violence against the Rohingya of Myanmar is intensifying much quicker than originally thought. Since the onset of new violence one week ago, more than 40,000 Rohingya have fled north into Bangladesh. In the past week, more than 50 drowned crossing the river in Bangladesh when 3 boats sunk. In total, more than 400 have died within a week and the scope of violence is predicted to expand as the Buddhist majority continues to eliminate the Muslim population from the Myanmar state of Rakhine.

Kenya
Election Annulled
This morning, the Supreme Court in Kenya voided the result of last month’s presidential election. After reviewing a case challenging the conduct of the vote, Kenya’s Chief Justice explained that, due to “irregularities” in the voting process, the Supreme Court would annul the vote. Many are worried about violent protests in the wake of this decision. According to the Kenyan Constitution, a new election must be held within 60 days. This map shows the location of Nairobi in Kenya, where the Supreme Court announced their decision. Click on the map to expand.
