Nepal
Plane Crash at Airport
A US-Bangla Airlines flight, carrying 71 passengers, crashed at the airport in Kathmandu, Nepal at 2:15 local time. At least 49 people were killed, 22 people are being treated in hospitals for injuries, some in critical condition. Witnesses say the passenger plane from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, was wobbling and seemed unbalanced as it approached Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The director general of the Civil Aviation of Nepal stated the aircraft was permitted to land from the southern side of the runway but landed from the northern side instead. The reasoning for this unusual landing has yet to be determined. This map depicts the flight’s origin, Dhaka, and destination, Kathmandu. Click on the map to learn more.
