North Korea
Building New Missiles
Despite pledges to denuclearize and improved relations between North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, and President Donald Trump, U.S. spy satellites show that North Korea is constructing new inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). The satellite Images show continued activity at the Sanumdong facility near the capital, Pyongyang. The missile factory is known for producing the first North Korean missile capable of reaching the U.S.. Last week, it appeared North Korea was dismantling a key rocket launch site, but this new evidence suggests they may be continuing their nuclear program. This map depicts the Sanumdong facility near Pyongyang. Click on the map to learn more.

United States
3-D Printed Guns
At least eight states announced on Monday that they would jointly sue President Donald Trump’s administration in order to block the public from being able to download blueprints for 3-D printed guns. The blueprints are set to be published tomorrow by Texas-based company Defense Distributed, who made an agreement with the U.S. government in June allowing for downloads. Twenty states have asked the U.S. State Department to intervene on the matter in the name of national security, as it would make guns readily available to anyone regardless of age, mental health, or criminal history. Moreover, 3-D printed guns are also difficult to detect with metal detectors as they are printed with plastic, and many are concerned that they will provide easy access to weapons for terrorists. This map depicts the 20 states that have asked the State Department to intervene. Click on the map for a video to learn more.

The province of Basilan is known to be the home to several Islamist insurgent groups; the Abu Sayyaf terror group claimed responsibility for the blast. This incident comes less than a week after the Philippines president signed a law to create an autonomous region in that area where several rebel groups operate.
