Mexico
Playa Del Carmen Warning
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico has issued a travel warning for the popular tourist city, Playa Del Carmen.  After a ferry explosion left 25 people injured on February 21, an un-detonated bomb was found this week on a ferry traveling the same route to the island of Cozumel.  The warning was issued for U.S. government employees working in Mexico and soon escalated to a full travel warning against the tourist city.  Playa Del Carmen is located near other popular resort cities such as Cancun and Cozumel. This map depicts the location of Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. Click on the map to learn more.

South Korea
Winter Paralympics Kicks Off
From March 9-18, about 570 athletes from 48 nations will compete in 80 medal events across six Winter Paralympic sports, including alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice sledge hockey, snowboarding, and wheelchair curling. This year, North Korea sent its first ever winter team to the Paralympics. The two Korean nations marched separately at the opening ceremony and there will be no unified ice hockey team, unlike at the Games last month. Russia does not have an official team and will be competing as neutrals due to their suspension, This map depicts the location of the venue for the 2018 Winter Paralympics. Click on the map to enlarge.

Italy
National Election Results
The right-leaning Five Star Movement party came out on top during the Italian elections on March 4th, revealing a new face for the country. A 33% percent win pushed out the previous center-left ruling Democratic party. The leaders of the Five-Star movement are skeptical of the current state of the European Union, similar to the U.K. in 2016.  As a new party takes control of Italy,  countries throughout Europe and the rest of the world wonder which direction Italy’s new government will take.  Another right-lean party, Lega of Matteo Salvini, won 17% of the votes,
another indication that voters in Italy favor some ty[e of right-leaning policy.
