Portugal
Madeira Bus Crash
On Wednesday, a bus carrying 55 German tourists and a Portuguese tour guide veered off the road in Madeira and overturned, killing 29 of the passengers. The tourists were staying at the Quinta Splendida Hotel, not far from the crash site, and were part of a holiday group. The bus was only 5 or 6 years old and met all safety standards; the cause of the crash is still unknown. The bus company, Madeira Automobile Society (SAM) has launched an investigation into the crash. Berlin’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Portugal’s Foreign Minister Augusto Santos will fly to Madeira to meet those affected.

Pakistan
Bus Passengers Executed
A group of gunmen ambushed a bus on a coastal highway in the Baluchistan province of Pakistan. The group of gunmen, dressed as police officers, killed 14 passengers after asking to see everyone’s IDs. Later, a Baloch separatist group, Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar, claimed responsibility for the attack. The separatist group seeks the independence of Baluchistan from Pakistan and was reportedly targeting non-Baluchistan military personnel and coast guard.
