Singapore
Naval Collision
10 U.S. Navy sailors are reported missing after a U.S. Destroyer collided with a Liberian oil tanker. The collision occurred off the eastern coast of Singapore, where both ships were heading to dock. The Destroyer suffered heavy damage, and many of its compartments were flooded, while the tanker received relatively light damage with no oil spilled. In addition to the 10 missing sailors, 5 were injured and required evacuation to a Malaysian hospital. The Malaysian coast guard is currently working with the U.S. to locate the lost seamen. This map shows the location of the collision near Singapore. Click on the map to learn more.

Denmark
Mysterious Disappearance
A Danish inventor claims to have given a burial-at-sea to a reporter who died accidentally while aboard his homemade submarine off the southern coast of Copenhagen. The inventor, Peter Madsen, is being held on charges of involuntary manslaughter as authorities continue to investigate the disappearance of the reporter, Kim Wall. When Wall was first reported missing, Madsen made a statement to authorities that he had taken her out on his submarine and dropped her off on the remote section of the port later that evening. With his new account of the events unfolded, the authorities and public are left with more questions than answers. This map shows the city of Copenhagen, Denmark, home of the inventor Peter Madsen. United States
Total Solar Eclipse
A total solar eclipse will cross the United States today from coast to coast, starting in Oregon around 10 AM and ending just before 3 PM in South Carolina. It will be the first in a century to cross the continental U.S. coast to coast and the first since the United State’s founding (1776) that will pass directly over only this country. The last time an eclipse traveled across the entire country was 1918. This rare phenomenon happens when the moon passes directly between the sun and the Earth and completely covers the entire face of the sun. All of America will see the moon partially block the sun but only states within the 70 mile wide path of totality will get to witness the total eclipse. This map shows the path of totality.
