Show of Strength
On Monday, the United States and South Korea launched its annual joint military air exercise dubbed Vigilant Ace. Hundreds of aircraft including two dozen stealth jets began training amid increased tensions with North Korea over its nuclear program and recent missile tests. According to South Korea’s Defense Ministry, the five-day drills will take place in all weather, both day and night as to “improve the allies’ wartime capabilities and preparedness”. North Korea said the exercise could bring the Korean peninsula “to the brink of war.”This info graphic/map depicts the 2017 North Korean missile tests and the possible range for each test. Click on the graphic to expand.

United States
Monumental Reduction?
President Trump is expected to announce reductions to the Bears Ears and the Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. It is speculated that the President plans to dramatically shrink the Bear Ears monument by between 77 and 92 percent making it the largest reduction of a national monument to date. Before leaving office, former President Barack Obama, designated more than 1.6 million acres of land in Utah and Nevada as national monuments which President Trump stated was “another egregious abuse of federal power”. Over the weekend, tribal leaders and activists began convening in Salt Lake City to protest the president’s looming decision. This map shows the Bear Ears National Monument.
