Syria: Retaliation Attack

Syria
Retaliation Attack
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard fired six ballistic missiles over Iraq and into Syria towards what they claim to be a rebel militant stronghold. The attack in the Al Bukamal region of Syria was in retaliation for the military parade attack in Iran on September 22nd.  Iran’s leader,  Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has blamed Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for financing the attackers and has vowed to “harshly punish” them. A U.S. defense official confirms the missile attack in Syria struck just three miles away from U.S. troops in the country. This map depicts the type of missiles used as well as the path of the missile launch. Click on the map to learn more.

South China Sea
Chinese – U.S. Warship Encounter
Chinese and U.S. warships came close to colliding in disputed waters in the South China Sea Sunday near the Spratlys Islands. A U.S. Navy Destroyer had to maneuver to avoid collision after a Chinese warship came within 45 yards of the U.S. ship’s bow. The Chinese defense ministry reported Tuesday that it opposes the U.S. warship’s entry into the waters “around China’s islands and reefs”. While China claims much of the South China Sea, it faces competing claims over the Spratlys Island territory from Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, as well as Taiwan. This map depicts the disputed territories in the South China Sea and the Spratlys islands were the warship encounter took place. Click on the map to learn more.

There are currently over 13,000 detained migrant children across the U.S. This map depicts a satellite image of the camp in Tornillo, Texas where tents have been set up and expanded.
