Syria
Turkish Offensive
Following the announcement that the United States will pull troops out of Syria, Turkish forces started an offensive to move in against U.S.-backed Kurdish forces. The combined air and ground attack has killed at least 100 Kurdish fighters. Turkey says it is seeking to create a “safe zone” along it’s border with Syria to house thousands of Syrian refugees. Turkey believes the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, who have supported the U.S. in its fight against ISIS, are a terrorist organization and is looking to safeguard the border area from their influence.

North America
3 Billion Birds Vanished
Recent studies have shown that about 30% of the total North American bird populations have vanished since 1970. Furthermore, nearly half of all current species are at risk of climate change, which could force iconic state birds out of the continental U.S. Over 90% of the losses are from common bird species like Sparrows and Wood Thrush which are considered to be resilient and hardy. Causes are linked to a multitude of factors, with habitat destruction and climate change at the forefront. Common pesticides, window collisions and household cats also contribute to the severe declines.
This map depicts the predicted shift in the common Wood Thrush’s North American range. Click on the map to learn more.

The UAW is currently holding out for new commitments from GM to keep vehicle production in America.
This map depicts where the strikes are currently happening, and the hourly/salary wages of employees by year. Click on the map to expand.
