Syria
U.S. Air-Strikes
A U.S.-led coalition in eastern Syria carried out an airstrike that was responsible for 54 deaths, 28 of which were civilian.  The airstrike occurred in an ISIS- held area east of the Euphrates River in the town of Albu Kamal.  The strike reportedly hit an old ice factory where families had taken up shelter. The United States continues to back the Syrian Defense Force against pro-government militant groups- both groups, however, continue the fight against the Islamic State.  Iraq, which has expelled most IS troops from it’s territory, has also carried out air-strikes in the border region.  This map depicts the historical and current population range of the black rhino. Click on the map to learn more.

Boil Water Advisory
The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority has issued a boil water advisory for large parts of the D.C. metro area, encompassing most of the area North of the White House. The advisory stems from problems at the Bryan Street pump which caused a drop in water pressure that can allow contaminants to enter the system. Residents are instructed to wait until the water coming out of their tap is clear before filling up a vessel and then bringing it to a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Authorities say it is safe to bathe in the affected water, but only boiled water should be used for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth. This map depicts the span of the boil water advisory in the D.C. area.
