Thailand
Human Trafficking Trial
A Bangkok court in Thailand found dozens guilty in organizing a human trafficking ring which enslaved hundreds of people. 102 defendants were arrested in 2015 after 36 bodies were found in shallow graves near the Malaysian border. The victims were buried near a secret jungle camp where they were imprisoned, tortured and held for ransom. The 102 defendants include 20 government officials, police officers, and a Thai army general. Many of the victims are from Bangladesh and Myanmar and are Rohingya, a persecuted Muslim minority. The victims paid smugglers to help them find work but instead were enslaved in Thailand’s lucrative fishing fleet.

The couple, missing since 1942, has been perfectly preserved for 75 years, and has only now been found due to glacial recession. The couple has been identified as farmers from a nearby village of Les Diablerets, and their surviving children are thankful that the mystery surrounding their parents has been solved. This map shows the location of the glacier in Switzerland. GeoQuestion

Yesterday’s Answer

Q: Where in the world is the tallest, uninterrupted waterfall?

A: Venezuela

Angel Falls, in the jungles of eastern Venezuela, is the tallest uninterrupted waterfall, meaning that it falls straight from the top to the bottom with no interference. Given its height, the spray from the falls can be felt more than a kilometer away.
