Thailand
Mass Shooting
On Saturday afternoon, a shooting spree by a soldier began at Sutham Phithak Base Camp in the Nakhon Ratchasima Province of Thailand, about 250 miles from Bangkok. The gunman used Facebook Live to post videos of the massacre that moved from the base camp to Terminal 21 shopping mall, about nine miles away. Reasons for the shooting claim to be from a personal dispute with a landlord. The shooting lasted until Sunday morning, leaving 29 dead and 58 wounded. The weekend’s massacre was the largest ever mass shooting in Thailand carried out by a single gunman.

Kazakhstan
Ten Killed in Ethnic Clash
On Saturday, over 300 people were involved in clashes between ethnic Kazakhs and Dungans, a Muslim group with Chinese origins, in the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. Reports say the riots were incited by an “everyday confrontation” that sparked a mountain of “longstanding grievances” and was spurred on through social media. Forty-five properties were destroyed in the area, which is predominantly home to Dungan families. Ten people were killed, and dozens injured in what is being considered the worst inter-ethnic violence in Kazahstan in years. In the aftermath, many Dungan women, children, and elderly were seen crossing into nearby Kyrgyzstan.

United States
Green Light Leads to Ban
The Department of Homeland Security has barred New Yorkers from applying to Trusted Traveler programs in response to the state passing a Green Light Law. In December 2019, New York joined fifteen other states and D.C. in adopting a Green Light Law allowing unauthorized immigrants to obtain drivers licenses. New York’s law also bars the federal government from accessing state motor vehicle records without a court order. The decision, announced late last week, restricts New York state residents from applying for expedited border crossing programs Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST. On Friday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Letitia James announced they will sue the Trump administration over the ban.
