Missing Boys Found
The Thai soccer team was finally located on Monday after being trapped in a flooded cave for ten days. All 12 boys, ages 11-16, and their coach have been found alive inside Tham Luang cave, the longest cave in Thailand and a popular tourist destination. Once found, the boys were sent food and a diving medic to care for them. They are reportedly very weak but unharmed. It is unclear exactly how they survived the ordeal, but rescuers had been dropping food through holes in the cave in the hopes of reaching the boys. Rescue crews intend to evacuate the boys soon, but the journey will be dangerous as they will have to climb several levels and scuba dive to escape. Torrential rain will make the rescue even more challenging.

Presidential Election
Andres Manuel López Obrador celebrated an overwhelming victory in Mexico’s presidential election. As the polls came to a close Monday afternoon, Lopez Obradio won the largest election majority vote (53%) of any Mexican presidential candidate since the 1990’s. Analysts say the majority of Mexicans voted for a new party instead of the current leading parties due to the party’s inability to solve problems such as corruption, crime, and inequality over decades of ruling. Obrador promised he will remediate Mexico’s current corruption and rampant violence while helping the poor and working class. Additionally, he aims to work on balancing Mexico’s relationship with the United States.

Yolo County Fire
The flames of the Yolo County fire were first seen on Saturday afternoon near Rumsey Canyon in Northern California. By Monday evening, the fire spanned more than 60,000 acres. Now, that number has reached 70,000. Shifting winds and dry countryside have allowed the fire to grow exponentially, and it hasn’t stopped yet. Fire officials say the blaze is only 3% contained. Some residents of rural Yolo County have been ordered to evacuate. 700 structures are currently threatened by the fire.
