Net Neutrality Adoption
On Wednesday, India approved the “world’s strongest” net neutrality rules in the world. The adopted recommendations explicitly forbid operators from throttling data speeds for online service, ensuring that internet users can access all websites and content at the same cost and speed – preventing “data discrimination” via blocking, degrading, paid prioritization, or giving preferential treatment. India has been pushing for equitable net neutrality laws since 2015; in November 2017 India adopted recommendations by the Telecom Regulation Authority of India. This interactive map depicts the status of net neutrality laws and regulations around the world.
