California Wildfire
The death toll has risen to 63 people from the northern Californian Camp Fire as searches continued yesterday through the remnants of Paradise, California. Over 12,000 homes in the town had been incinerated, with over 600 people now reported missing. Those who were able to successfully evacuate the area are now facing a housing crisis, as shelters are unable to accommodate the thousands who are displaced. Due to the amount of scorched area and high death toll, the Camp Fire is already being recorded as the worst wildfire in California’s history.

Northeast Snowstorm
Intense snowfall on Thursday left more than 350,000 people without power in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Many schools are closed and heavy delays on the roads are reported. Additionally, several people died in multiple crashes due to icy roads in Arkansas and Mississippi. More snowfall is expected over the course of today for some areas, with most snowfall expected in northeast Pennsylvania to northern Maine. Walking and driving conditions may become dangerous and people have been asked to stay off the roads in those states.

United States
Election Recount
Over a week after the midterm election, official winners have not been declared in key states as final vote recounts continue.  In Florida, both Senate and gubernatorial ballots are being recounted. Senate races are being recounted in Florida and Mississippi. Additionally, 6 House races across 5 states are being recounted. Election recounts typically occur when there is less than 1% difference in votes, or if neither of the candidates receives over a 50% majority.  In Georgia, allegations of voter suppression have also resulted in a recount for the gubernatorial election.
