United States
Cases Exceed 1.6 Million
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported over 1.6 million cases of COVID-19 in the United States with a death toll of nearly 100,000. This interactive map, featured in Esri’s Disaster Response Program, uses data from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University to show the latest cases of the virus for the U.S. by county. Using 3-D visualization, the map illustrates the confirmed cases and deaths per county as well as the number of people tested, hospitalized, and that have recovered from the virus. Efforts continue across the United States to contain the COVID-19 outbreak but many states have begun to shift their focus on reopening their economies in a manner where public health and safety is a top priority.
This map gives a breakdown of COVID-19 cases and deaths per county in the United States. All COVID-19 updates will be displayed in a red box.

Venezuela
Iran Sends Oil to Venezuela
The first of five Iranian ships carrying one and a half million barrels (eleven million gallons) of gasoline and oil products docked in Venezuela yesterday despite warnings from the United States. Iran and Venezuela are both already under U.S. sanctions, with more reportedly under consideration. Iranian President Hassan Rohani warned there would be “consequences” if the U.S. were to intervene with the ongoing shipment that is currently being escorted by the Venezuelan navy and air force. Although it contains the largest oil reserve in the world, Venezuela is facing an economic crisis that has lead to widespread poverty, resource shortages, and the necessary outsourcing of gasoline. The first two ships have made it into Venezuelan waters unhindered, and so far United States officials have refused to comment.

Australia
Once-a-Decade Storm
The state of Western Australia was struck by a raging storm, with forecasters labeling it as the “worst storm in ten years”. The remnants of ex-tropical cyclone Mangga met by a cold front pushing south has brought heavy rains, dust storms, and winds up to 82 miles/hour across the state’s coast. The storm surged across the southern tip and the state’s capital of Perth yesterday, leaving tens of thousands of businesses and homes without power. The storm is expected to ease over the next few days, but officials urge people to stay in their homes as dangerous flooding and high seas are expected to continue.
