China Trade War
On Friday, President Trump announced he will issue a list of USD $50 billion worth of tariffs on Chinese imports. The list of 1,100 Chinese goods to be be hit with a 25 percent tariff “that contain industrially significant technologies,” will focus on industries such as aerospace, robotics, and machinery. On July 6th, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will begin tariff collection on the first $34 billion worth of Chinese Imports. In retaliation, China has announced an expansive list of tariffs on U.S. products, from meat, soybeans, and whiskey, to cars and airplanes. Taliban Leader Killed
A spokesman for the Afghan defense ministry announced earlier today that Mullah Fazlullah, leader of Pakistan’s Taliban armed group, was killed in neighboring Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was killed by a U.S. airstrike near the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Pakistani Taliban leader was known for ordering the assassination of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, a young woman who was shot for trying to attend school in Taliban-controlled Pakistan and has since become the face of girl’s education rights around the world.

Cereal Causes Salmonella
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that recent nation-wide salmonella outbreaks are linked to Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal. Since March, 73 cases of salmonella infection have been reported across 31 states; at least 21 cases required hospitalization. Although only 30 of the 39 people interviewed reported consuming this cereal, Kellogg’s is voluntarily recalling 1.3 million cases of the cereal across the country; no other Kellogg’s products are impacted by the recall. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration and Kellogg’s are launching an investigation with third-party manufacturers to find the cause of the outbreak.
