Zealandia
The Sunken Continent
Scientists associated with the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) returned from a two-month expedition to the mostly submerged landmass, Zealandia. Scientists plan to keep studying the more than 2,500 m of sediment cores they collected during the expedition to understand the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates and how the global climate system affected Zealandia. This research helps contribute to computer models used to predict future changes in Earth’s climate.
