Foiled Attack on Muslim Community
Three men and a teenager were arrested yesterday after their plan to attack a Muslim enclave in Islamberg, New York was discovered. A comment made by the teenager in a school setting quickly led to an investigation in Greece, New York that uncovered 23 firearms and three “improvised explosive devices” connected to the four men. Police would not give full details of the plot, only that it had been in planning stages for about a month. Islamberg is a rural community comprised of several hundred Muslims, about 3 hours from New York City.

Santander Set to Close 140 Branches
Today, the Madrid-based bank, Santander, announced plans to close almost a fifth of its branch network in Britain; approximately 140 branches with an expected 840 job losses. The bank said it spoke with trade unions and would try to find alternative roles for the staff affected, where possible. Santander said the closures were a result of the rapid uptake in digital banking; transactions in its branches fell by 23% over the past 3 years. Britain has lost almost two-thirds of its bank and building society branches over the past three decades.
