Hong Kong
Violent Protests Persist
Anti-government protests are becoming progressively more violent in Hong Kong. Hong Kong police continue to lay siege on the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), in Hung Hom on the southern tip of the Kowloon peninsula, where several hundred protesters are thought to be trapped. Police fired tear gas late Sunday night outside the campus after an ultimatum to come out expired. Protesters have assembled an arsenal of petrol bombs and bow and arrows to resist police force, as a result a fire has been set to the entrance of PolyU, and a bridge that leads to the campus.

France
Bridge Collapse
On Monday, a 15-year-old girl was killed after a suspension bridge over the Tarn river in southwest France collapsed. Officials reported that four people were rescued after a truck, a car and possibly a third vehicle fell into the river but several others were still feared missing. The metal and concrete bridge — built in 1935 and renovated in 2003 — linked the towns of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn and Bessieres, 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of the city of Toulouse. According to the mayor of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn, the bridge had been regularly inspected and had shown no structural issues. This map depicts the suspension bridge over the Tran that collapsed.
