Border Dispute Conclusion
After several weeks of tension between China and India over a disputed border region in the Himalayas, India has withdrawn troops from the area. The dispute began in mid-June when India opposed China’s plans to extend a border road in the area. India’s foreign ministry has stated that troops are “disengaging” after an agreement was made between the two countries. This map shows the disputed area in the Doklam Plateau. United States
Up in Arms
A mob of masked counter-protesters clashed with a small group of right-wing demonstrators during a “Say No to Marxism in America” protest held in the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Park in Berkley, California. What began as peaceful demonstrations quickly led to violence as small skirmishes began breaking out between the two groups and the police were forced to intervene. Many of the anti-fascists counter-protestors chased and beat rival supporters out of the area, causing the police to use tear gas and smoke to disperse the mobs. The clashes underscore Berkley’s growing reputation for violent reaction from far-left protestors. This map shows the city of Berkley, California where the clash between protesters occurred.
