Turkey
Missile Purchase Set

Turkey is set to move forward with the controversial purchase of Russian-owned S-400 surface-to-air missile defense equipment. The deal has raised concerns among other NATO members as they claim Turkey should invest in equipment that is compatible with the defense systems operated by the alliance. President Erdogan stands firm in his decision stating, “We are obliged to take safety and security measures in order to defend our country … Nobody has the right to discuss the Turkish republic’s independence principles or independent decisions about its defense industry.”

Italy
Volcano Tragedy
An 11-year old boy and his parents are dead after falling into a volcanic crater in the city of Pozzuoli, Italy. The family was visiting Solfatara, a shallow crater, and popular tourist destination when the boy passed a barricade and fell into the crater. The parents attempted to save the child and fell in as well when the soft ground gave away. The mayor of Pozzuoli declared a day of grieving for the family and has urged schools and offices to observe a minute of silence at noon. This map depicts the location of the volcanic crater in Italy.
