United States
Monuments Removed
The city of Baltimore, Maryland removed four monuments memorializing the Confederacy early this morning. The monuments were removed with minimal advance warning in order to avoid potential opposition to the act. Baltimore mayor Catherine Pugh pledged to dismantle these traces of history from city-owned public parks in light of the violent rally this past weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia. Similar acts against Confederate monuments have taken place along the East Coast this week. This map shows the location of Baltimore in relation to Charlottesville. Click on the map to expand.

Clues to a Mystery
Recently discovered satellite photographs may have given scientists new leads on the location of Malaysian Airlines 370. The satellite photographs, which were shot less than one month after the plane’s disappearance in 2014, show 70 objects floating near the predicted crash zone. Analysts have determined 12 pieces of debris as “most-likely man-made” but cannot yet determine whether they are air-craft debris. This map shows the area where the satellite images were taken in 2014.
