United States
National School Walk Out
Across the entire United States today, students agreed to take a stand against gun violence and walk out of their schools. This is in accordance with the month anniversary of the Parkland, Florida school shooting leaving 17 people dead. The National School Walkout started at 10 a.m. ET and will continue across the country at 10 a.m. in each time zone. The protests are fueled by years of dissatisfaction over gun laws. Some school districts have said they will discipline students who participate in the walkouts, while  other colleges have released statements saying they will disregard these disciplines on college applications. This interactive map depicts schools across the country signed up for Walk Out Day. Click on the map for a clearer image.

Philippines Withdraws from ICC
According to a statement released this morning, President Rodrigo Duterte is withdrawing the Philippines from the Rome Statute, a treaty that establishes abidance to the laws of the International Criminal Court (ICC). This move may be linked to the ICC opening a preliminary investigation into thousands of deaths linked to the President’s campaign against suspected drug users and dealers. Since President Duterte was elected in 2016, an estimated 12,000 Filipinos have been killed in numerous ways such as being shot in police operations with high death tolls and few witnesses. Duterte confronted the investigation by noting that it was a “violation of the presumption of innocence.”This map depicts the death rate across the country since Duterte’s election. Click on the map to learn more.
