The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).  The organization has been at the forefront of banning nuclear arms around the world. ICAN executive director, Beatrice Fihn, accepted the award on behalf of the organization along with Setsuko Thurlow, a Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor. United Kingdom
Heavy Snowfall

As the Eastern portion of the United States welcomed it’s first snowfall of the season, the United Kingdom experienced some atypical snowfall.  Weather forecasters claimed this is the largest snowfall to have hit the capital of London since 2013. Other areas in the UK recorded 12 inches of snow.  Despite the excitement over snowfall for some, major travel disruptions were experienced throughout the region.  Many school closures are also in effect for Monday. This map depicts snowfall over the United Kingdom this past weekend. Click on the map to learn more.
