United States
Pennsylvania Redistricting
On Monday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court released a map of the new congressional district lines. Redistricting of the state aims to curb gerrymandering, basing boundary lines on criteria such as geographical compactness rather than on party affiliation. The swing state’s primary is in May, with 18 congressional seats open during elections.

Cyclone Gita
Many districts in New Zealand’s South Island, including Christchurch, have declared a state of emergency after being hit by Cyclone Gita. The tropical storm boasts winds up to 150 km/h (90mph) and is expected to hit New Zealand through Wednesday morning. Flights have been cancelled in and out of the capital Wellington, in the North Island. Syria
Damascus Attack
Pro-Syrian government attacks over the weekend in Eastern Ghouta, 9 miles outside of Damascus, have left at least 127 people dead, including 20 children and 15 women.  Another 850 civilians are reported injured. Although the attack outside of the capital city targeted rebel-held militant areas, the airstrikes hit 5 hospitals, leaving the area incapacitated to treat the injured civilians. Officials state this is one of the deadliest attacks in Syria’s seven-year, on-going civil war.
