United States: PPE Donation Sites

United States
PPE Donation Sites
PPE Link, an organization of scientists, engineers, and medical professionals, has created an initiative called #FindTheMasks and developed a map locating Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donation sites across the United States and in other locations around the world. The network of volunteers at PPE Link has mapped more than 1,700 locations of hospitals, clinics, and other health centers where donations are being accepted. There is a shortage of PPE during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as nations all over the world struggle to stop the spread of the disease and treat the infected. #FindTheMasks is an important resource for those looking to donate equipment such as masks, gowns, goggles, and face shields to protect healthcare workers who are battling the virus on the frontline.

This map depicts the local areas across the United States where masks and other PPE can be donated. Click on the map to find a location near you. All COVID-19 updates will be displayed in a red box.

Severe Storms in Ohio
Several counties in northeast Ohio were issued tornado warnings following a series of severe thunderstorms early Wednesday morning. Cleveland meteorologists reported storm winds were as strong as 70 miles per hour. By 1 a.m., 90,000 Ohio residents reported power outages. No injuries have been reported, and crews are working to safely restore power to homes during this time when many are expected to work and attend school remotely.

This map depicts the areas experiencing power outages related to the storms. Click on the map to learn more.

China
Pandas Mate at Hong Kong Zoo
Love is in the air for giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le in Ocean Park at Hong Kong Zoo. After ten years of trial and error, the 14 year-old giant pandas found some privacy to naturally mate while the zoo is shut down due to the pandemic. While zookeepers won’t know if the pregnancy was successful until 14-17 days before birth, there could be early signs of pregnancy in June. Only 1,800 giant pandas are left in the wild, so artificial insemination is common to perform during mating season. Breeding centers and zoos, like Hong Kong Zoo in China encourage natural mating, but their low sexual drive hurts their survival rate.

This map depicts the zoos and breeding centers for giant pandas in China. Click on the map to learn more.
