The Boring Company
Recommended for Transit Project

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has recommended The Boring Company, founded by Elon Musk, to build a tunnel transportation system to span the newly expanded Las Vegas Convention Center. The proposed system, with an estimated price of $35 to $55 million, is approximately one mile long and would be the company’s first commissioned project. The model would transport visitors in electric vehicles to one of three or four stations located near the Centers’ entrances.

Peru
Mass Sacrifice Site Unearthed
Archaeologists have unearthed a mass sacrifice site in Peru dating back to the 15th century Chimu state.   The site contained remains of at least 140 children whose remains bore evidence their hearts were ritualistically removed.  Over 200 llama remains were also discovered at the site, in what is now the largest known mass sacrifice  of children and llamas in the New World. Sacrifices of this nature were performed as part of a funeral or otherwise spiritual ritual. The authors of the published study reveal the amount of resources needed to conduct a sacrifice of this level is quite high and the event must have held a lot of significance at the time.

Solomon Islands
Oil Spill
Four weeks ago, a Hong Kong cargo ship ran aground and spilled 80 tons of oil. The spill extends 3.5 miles off the coast, threatening the world’s largest raised coral atoll, Rennell Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Swimming and fishing are banned, which has negatively affected local villagers who rely on fish for food and economic sustenance. Fresh water from  various springs has been contaminated forcing residents to drink rainwater. The ship owner and insurer failed to act on the clean up and the Solomon Islands government has asked Australia, a neighboring country, for help in containing the damage. This oil spill is considered to be the greatest man-made disaster ever for the Solomon Islands.
