The Rise of Working From Home
Real estate experts have encountered a rise of workers fleeing metropolitan areas to work remotely from scenic and rural towns in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This map by Chmura compares metropolitan statistical areas in the United States by a Remote Work Index. The index compares the mix of remote-work employment in the region versus the average in the nation. Large urban areas with service-based economies such as New York City, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. all have high index scores, making people more likely to flee from larger cities to less densely populated scenic areas including the Hudson Valley, Lake Tahoe, and western Montana amid the pandemic.
This map displays all the metropolitan statistical areas in the United States by the Remote Work Index. All COVID-19 updates will be displayed in a red box.

Post-Brexit Conflicts
A new post-Brexit UK Internal Market Bill could affect customs and trade regulations within Northern Ireland. The UK and EU are currently in their eighth round of trade talks, and the bill has experts worried about changes to the UK’s withdrawal agreement, which became finalized as international law in January. The bill is expected to include changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol, a portion of the withdrawal agreement designed to prevent a hard border between Northern Ireland (EU) and the rest of the UK (non-EU). Britain, however, declared their commitment to the treaty, calling their additions “minor clarifications” and support to the 1998 Northern Ireland Peace Deal.

Greece
Migrant Camp Fire
A fire erupted in one of Greece’s largest migrant camps, the Moria camp, on the island of Lesbos early Wednesday. The fire has completely destroyed the camp, leaving thousands without shelter or accommodations. It is still unclear as to how the fire started, but tensions have been rising between migrants and Greek locals, with both groups blaming the other. The government has declared a four-day state of emergency, and the UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, has asked migrants to restrict their movements and stay nearby until solutions are proposed. The overcrowded Moria is home to almost 13,000 people from over 70 different countries. Just last week, Moria was placed under quarantine after tens of cases of coronavirus were confirmed.
This map shows the location of Moria on the Greek island, Lesbos. Click on the map to learn more.
