United States
Wall Under Construction
President Trump’s proposed wall began construction on Monday along the border of New Mexico. It is one of the three installments that are going up this year along the U.S. and Mexican border. The project will span over 20 miles, costing upwards of USD $73 million – funded by the Department of Homeland Security. Currently, the military is guardig the border until the project is complete. Another project is under construction in Calexico, California, and a third is set to begin later this year in San Diego. This interactive map shows every foot of the border in aerial video. Click on the map to explore.

India
Fatal Cliff Accident
In the Kangra Valley of Nurpur, India, approximately 300 miles north of Delhi, a school bus tumbled off a cliff leaving 23 children and 4 adults dead. The rest of the children are injured and receiving care in nearby hospitals. The driver of the school bus lost control of the vehicle along the cliff-side, resulting in a fall of about 200 feet.  300 to 400 residents of the area assisted the rescue efforts at the crash site. Traffic accidents are not rare in India. In fact, the country has one of the highest rates of traffic-related deaths.  This is partly due to the poor infrastructure of roads and low-level training of drivers. This map depicts the area of northern India where the school bus crashed. Click on the map to learn more.

Saudi Arabia
The New Origin of Humans
A fossilized human finger bone, measuring only 3.2 cm, was found in Nefud Desert. The fossil dates back to at least 85,000 years and is the oldest dated Homo sapiens fossil discovered outside of Africa and Levant. This finding challenges the widely held belief that modern humans originated in Africa and migrated to the rest of the world in a single wave about 60,000 years ago. Al Wusta, the site where the bone was excavated, is home to other animal fossils and artifacts such as tools. This map depicts the location of Al Wusta and the location where the finger bone (AW-1) was excavated.
