Walmart Changes Gun Policies
On Tuesday, Walmart announced it will reduce gun and ammunition sales for handguns and some military-style rifles following recent shootings, including one at one of its stores in Texas that left 22 dead. The move comes amid increasing pressure on the company, often cited as the largest firearms seller in the US. Walmart says its current market share in ammunition is about 20% and the new cutbacks will reduce its profile in that market to around 6% to 9%. Tuesday ‘s announcement followed earlier actions by Walmart to restrict access to some weapons including the 1993 decision to halt handgun sales in all states but Alaska, the 2015 action to end sales of semiautomatic weapons of the sort used in mass shootings and the 2018 choice to stop selling guns and ammunition to people younger than 21.

Bahamas
Crisis on the Island
Hurricane Dorian made landfall over the Bahamas and claimed 5 lives, with authorities still struggling to report an accurate number. The storm is the most powerful storm to hit the Bahamas with sustained winds of 145 mph. While storms have frequently passed over the island nation, this unusually slow-moving Category 5 system ravaged the area over the course of 36 hours, ripping off roofs, submerging airports, and turning narrow islands into seabed. The storm, which was expected to hit Florida and Georgia, took a turn and is expected to hit the Carolinas in the coming days. Rescue is underway in the Bahamas.

To rank the cities living conditions, the index examined the quality of healthcare, education, infrastructure, stability, and culture. No U.S. city made it higher than No. 22, with Honolulu ranked as the nation’s top performer.
