South Korea
Spying on the South
A suspected North Korean drone was found crashed near the border in South Korea. The drone had hundreds of photos in its onboard system. Some of the photos on the drone were images of the U.S. military’s THAAD missile defense system that had been installed in South Korea earlier this year. This discovery occurs during a time of tension between North and South Korea as North Korea continues to defy the United Nation’s sanctions on missile testing.

On this map, the red marker shows the area of Inje in which the drone was found. Click on the map to expand.

Panama Joins Forces with China
Panama has cut their diplomatic ties with Taiwan and instead established relations with China. In doing so, Panama recognizes that “there is only one China.” The African island nation of Sao Tome also cut ties with Taiwan last December. Now, only 20 countries have diplomatic relations with Taiwan. This decision increases pressure on Taiwan leadership over its diplomatic isolation.

This map shows Taiwan’s remaining diplomatic allies in blue and Panama in red. Click on the map to learn more about Taiwan relations.
