Yemen
Drone Attack over Parade
A Houthi drone attack on a Yemen-government air base in Al-Anad killed at least six soldiers today and left at least 20 more wounded.  The drone exploded above a military parade at which high-ranking officials were present; sources say military chief of staff, Gen Saleh al-Zindani and governor Ahmed al-Turki were among those injured in the attack.  The drone was reportedly packed with 70-100 kg of explosives. This attack comes just a few weeks after the warring sides agreed to a fragile ceasefire in the port city, Hodeidah.

The Democratic Republic of Congo
Surprising Election Results
Today, the opposition candidate, Felix Tshisekedi, from Congo’s Union for Democratic and Social Progress party, was announced the winner of the nation’s presidential election. He is the first opposition challenger to win since the DR Congo gained independence in 1960. Other heavily-favored candidates called the results electoral fraud. The departing President, Joseph Kabila, had backed a top aide to succeed him; however, this candidate did not contest the results, sparking suspicion that President Kabila reached a power-sharing deal with Mr. Tshisekedi. There are fears the announcement could trigger unrest in major cities, including in the capital Kinshasa.

United Kingdom
Jaguar Land Rover Auto Cuts
Major car producer, Jaguar Land Rover, announced its plan to cut 4,500 jobs worldwide beginning in the United Kingdom, where a large majority of Jaguar workers are employed. Most of the cuts will be made in office roles as the company tries to simplify its management structure. Jaguar claims uncertainty over Brexit, declining demand in China (its largest market), and diesel cuts are all reasons to reduce jobs. Last year the auto-maker cut 1,500 jobs. Jaguar Land Rover said they will continue investment in electrification of their vehicles.
