Co-op Power is a consumer-owned sustainable energy cooperative that operates within a regional network of Community Energy Cooperatives to create a multi-class, multi-racial movement for a sustainable and just energy future. The certified B Corporation is a grassroots vehicle to counter political and social trends that compromise the environment and economy. Through the cooperative, locally owned group-based businesses can anchor capital and build community in ways few other business structures can.
Co-op Power is building renewable energy resources to address the energy needs of the Northeast. For example, the first project is a biodiesel production facility called Northeast Biodiesel that uses recycled vegetable oil to make a regionally produced, regionally owned renewable fuel for home heating and transportation. The cooperative is also supporting the development of community solar and other renewable projects in the region to provide regionally produced, regionally owned renewable electricity.
Co-op Power has created an innovative structure that enables communities to create community-owned clean energy products and service, businesses and jobs. They have a team of engineers, financial experts, green building specialists, community economic developers, lawyers and business planners who help Community Energy Co-ops to research, design, capitalize and launch their community-owned sustainable energy businesses. Co-op Power has engaged in community outreach, education and dialogue since 2002 to build consensus about how to best support their transition to a sustainable and just energy future.
