Hivemapper is a company that developed a community-edited map built for drones, to help drone fliers know what altitude and heading to use to get the perfect image shot for spatial data collection. Through Hivemapper drone users can work together to make drone flights safer. Nothing beats real people working together sharing the latest obstructions, waypoints of interests with each other to make drones safer to fly for everybody. The app also makes flying easier. Flying drones is still much too complicated. Navigating a drone is like driving in a new city without Google Maps. Hivemapper is building the ‘Google Maps for drones’ built for regular people, professionals, and businesses.
Hivemapper is creating data infrastructure for the drone economy. Over the past century people have built railroads, highways, and flight paths. Today, people are building new kinds of ‘roads’ for drones. Waypoints are like Google Map pins in the air, and they are the building blocks for aerial maps. By connecting waypoints together Hivemapper will build safe roads and highways for drones.
